Chase Me ComradeSligo Drama Circle’s Autumn production at the Town Hall is Ray Cooney’s hilarious farce “Chase Me Comrade”. It involves all the thrills and spills of concealing a Russian ballet dancer who plans to defect to the West. There is a series of mistaken identity in which everybody suspects everybody else and soon a chase develops which involves the whole household.

Of a cast of ten, seven are newcomers to the Sligo Drama Circle. Peter Simons plays the leading role of Gerry Buss, a young man unwillingly drawn into the web of intrigue. Joe Taylor is the impeccable Petrovyan whose defection to the West is aided and abetted by Alicia Courtney, a ballerina played by Pam Donaghy. The very strong supporting cast includes Geraldine Blee, Moira Doonan, Manus Shields, Peadar Burns, Adrian Taheny, Martin Cronin and Martin Breen.

When “Chase Me Comrade” was originally produced, it ran for six months in London’s West End. This is only the second time it has been produced in Ireland and on both occasions by the same director, Irene Fleming. It is family entertainment at its best and the audience is guaranteed to be in agonies of laughter.
