Oliver 1987Now that the days have grown shorter and the nights longer, what better way to beat the pre-Christmas doldrums than a night out at the Hawk’s Well Theatre. And what better night out cold there be than “Oliver” the sparkling musical which Sligo Drama Circle presents from 11th to 21st of November at 8pm.

Of the adults in the show, the inimitable Robert Burnside plays the part of Fagin while Mark Mc Granaghan, who made such a big impression in “Ten Little Indians”, is Bill Sykes. Joy Gaffney, a newcomer to the group with a delightful singing voice, plays the delectable Nancy and Liam Winters from the Choral Society plays Mr. Bumble. Experienced regulars such as Joe Meehan, Pam Donaghy and Padraic Foran play Mr. Barlow, Mrs. Carney and Mr. Sowerberry, while Eileen Higgins takes on the role of Mrs. Sowerberry.

Other named parts are Brian Harte or Kathy Burnside as Oliver, R. Kilcoyne or C. Curley as Dodger, Cecilia Mc Guinness of Cliona Mc Gowan as Charlotte, Brian Fitzpatrick as Noah Claypole and Maeve Mc Gowan as Bet.

And while many of the costumes are being made and designed for the production, Director Joan Fitzpatrick and the Drama Circle have acquired a spectacular set of specialist costumes from the Burt Reynolds Theatre, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, many of which will be used in this show.
